I’ve just returned from the Pacific Coast Podiatry Conference in Portland, Oregon. I had the great pleasure of meeting Dr. Ken Cox the inventor of the Cox Metatarsal Spreader. We spent a good deal of time together discussing the inspiration behind the design and how the Cox Metatarsal Spreader came into being. I learned that before the spreader was developed the Metatarsals were previously spread by an assistant using two hand held retrators. Often during the procedure one of the hand retractors would slip causing a bit of difficulty for the Doctor. Dr. Cox developed the self-retaining Cox Metatarsal Spreader to overcome the challenges of the hand retractor issue. With the development of the spreader a Podiatrist can now perform the procedure alone without the help of an assistant to spread the metatarsals and without fear of the metatarsals moving during the procedure.

Our Hibbs Retractor is 9 1/4″ in length. The blade is 1″ x 3″ deep. Made from German Stainless Steel this high quality instrument will offer years of service when properly maintained. The Hibbs Retractor is used to retract tissue to expose bone during Orthopedic procedures.
