Scalpels

Knife Handle

Scalpels are used during surgery to cut skin and tissue. They are made up of a Knife Handle and a blade that is extremely sharp. The blade is disposable and detaches from the knife handle. The knife handle on the other hand is designed for multiple surgeries. There are disposable knife handles on the market but many surgeons prefer the stainless steel versions for their weight and feel. Surgeons use the scalpel to cut and perform dissections.

Proper Surgical Instrument Care

High quality surgical instruments are designed and manufactured to provide years of service when properly maintained. 99% of surgical instrument failures are due to abuse, misuse, or lack of proper care including proper cleaning. Instrument failures due to abuse happen as a result of careless handling of the instruments before or after surgery. Failures due to misuse happen when an instrument is used for a purpose for which it is not designed. Instrument failure due to a lack of care primarily happens as a result of improper cleaning and maintenance. One of the best resources available for instrument cleaning and maintenance can be found at www.a-k-i.org

Surgical Instruments

Surgical instruments have a long history dating back to the dawn of pre-history. Modern surgical instruments enable medical and veterinary professionals to perform procedures that promote healing and the extension of life. Over the years thousands of surgical instruments have been invented to aid professionals in the complex operations they are called upon to perform. The highest quality surgical instruments are manufactured in Germany and are made from German Stainless Steel. The second largest country manufacturing surgical instruments is Pakistan. The instruments produced in Pakistan tend to be sold in the world market to those looking for a mid to low grade instrument at a cheaper price. The old adage applies, “You get what you pay for.” If you don’t require the highest quality, instruments produced in Pakistan can be a good alternative to the higher quality and more expensive German instruments.
